There have been some big changes this year as after a lot of thought and consideration we decided to move from Derbyshire to the Isle of Anglesey. We have a lot more room including our own field where we can exercise the birds in our care. We are going to build new aviaries around the garden for the birds in our care and we will also have some aviaries available for sick and injured birds.

We have had great success with our captive breed Red Squirrels they had twins in May and some more in August. We are now looking for some squirrels to swap them with so we can have some more unrelated pairs. They have a lovely new aviary and will have runs going through the trees around the garden. We hope that one day some of their offspring will be able to join the release programme. |
One of our new residents is a injured wild tawny owl We have called her “Twiglet” She was found in a wood beside the motorway with a broken wing that had set in the wrong position and a injured eye which she later lost the sight in. She was starving but seemed very strong in herself. The Vet said she deserved a chance as she fought so hard to survive. She cannot fly well enough to hunt but is happy sharing a home with the other Tawny Owls and so will spend the rest of her life with us.
As usual we have had a number of garden birds and fledglings in. A favourite was a baby rook who was found starving. He soon grew up and began to fly around the garden until the day when he did not return for his supper. After a few more days he was not coming for any food but was often seen flying around taking care of himself.
A beautiful captive breed ferruginous hawk has come to live with us after the closure of a Falconry centre He had sever Bumble foot which is an infection of the foot after a lot of TLC and veterinary care he is now recovered and has been trained to flying free when ever possible. We have named him “Biscuit”
As you can see we have been busy even with the move and hope that once we are settled we will be able to help the birds and animals that need care on and around Anglesey . |
