The box is now made complete out of soft wood. The roof is made of soft wood lattes that follow the shape of the roof. The outside of the box is treated with water based wood preservative, which is harmless to the hedgehog. There is no floor as this allows access to the ground below. the size of the hedgehog box is.
The hedgehog box can be placed in your garden to encourage hedgehog to live there. It is best to place it in a quite corner with some dry leaves for bedding. |
Hedgehog like to come out in the evening and can often be seen snuffling around in gardens. They are meat eaters and so should be feed either tinned dog or cat food or specially prepared hedgehog food. Do not feed them bread and cows milk as this can cause them to become ill.
Hedgehogs need to weigh 450g to be able to survive the winter hibernation. If they are born late in the year they do not have time to gain this weight and so will not survive. There are special centres, which are able to take on these young under weight hedgehogs giving them a chance to live |
